IN MEMORIAM PETER LAZAR AM A donation has been made to the Dental Health
Australia Charitable Foundation in memory of Peter.
Peter was the inaugural Director of the Dental Health
Foundation at the University of Sydney. May you rest
in peace, Peter.

NEW NZDA CHIEF EXECUTIVE

In the November 2021 edition of the newsletter,
the Board proudly announced approval of an ICD
Distinguished Service Award for Honorary Fellow
Peter Lazar AM. Sadly, Peter passed away in January
before the award could be presented to him.

The ICD Distinguished Service Award (DSA) is a rare
honour within the College, a lifetime achievement
award recognizing outstanding service to the College
or the public over an extensive period of time. Peter
earned the ICD Distinguished Service Award through Congratulations to Dr Mowafaq Amso who has been
his life-long dedication to oral health promotion appointed as the new Chief Executive of the New

The Board was pleased to have the opportunity to and looks forward to strengthening the relationship

May 6. Section VIII President, Rick Sawers AM, flew in ICD LUNCHEON & INDUCTION CEREMONY
from Adelaide to make the presentation, highlighting Te Pae Convention Centre, Christchurch
the prestige and significance of the award and Peter’s
leadership in oral health promotion over many
decades. Section VIII International Councillor, Jackie
Robinson and the Section VIII Administrative Officer,
Ron Robinson, also attended the informal lunch and
presentation at Circular Quay. Unfortunately, Peter’s
long-time collaborator in oral health, Dr John Cooney,
was unable to attend.
