during their lunch period. Employees employed outside of the State of Georgia should refer to the intranet for the latest state specific guidance for meals and rest breaks in their state of residence.
Exempt employees do not account for time worked in this way and are to use their best judgment for taking break periods in such a way as to ensure their work gets accomplished in a timely manner.
Employees responsible for answering the switchboard and those in the customer service, technical service, and logistics departments must coordinate lunch breaks with their supervisors to provide uninterrupted coverage for their respective departments.
Lactation Break Policy
All employees who are nursing mothers may take reasonable breaks to express breast milk for up to one year after the birth of the employee’s nursing child, unless otherwise required by state or local law.
Erbe encourages all eligible employees who intend to take breaks under this policy to notify Human Resources of the frequency, timing, and duration of lactation breaks they need to take. Erbe will then provide a place for the employee to express milk that is (i) not a bathroom, (ii) shielded from public view of others, and (iii) free from intrusion by co-workers and the public by having a lockable door.
Compensation During Lactation Breaks
Lactation breaks under this policy are paid. However, employees who use meal break time to express breast milk should let Human Resources know and will be compensated accordingly. Non- exempt employees mush accurately record the start and end of lactation breaks by signing in and out as they otherwise would report to and from work for their lactation breaks in accordance with Erbe’s timekeeping policy.
Uninterrupted lactation breaks do not count as hours worked. Employees may work before the regularly scheduled start of their shift or continue working past the regularly scheduled end of their shift to make up any time used for lactation breaks. Employees who choose to do this should speak with their direct supervisor or manager in advance to make appropriate arrangements. Exempt employees may be provided break time and pay when necessary to comply with state and federal wage and hour laws.
Erbe expressly prohibits any form of discipline, reprisal, intimidation, retaliation, or discrimination against any individual for requesting or taking lactation breaks, or filing a complaint for violations of this policy, the Fair Labor Standards Act, or applicable state or local law.
