Health Insurance
QUESTION:
Student-Athlete R does not have general health insurance coverage. Is the member institution permitted to purchase general health insurance for
that student-athlete?
ANSWER:
NJCAA bylaws restrict a member institution from providing anything more than athletic related insurance, under normal conditions. However, for
the 2020-2021 academic year, the NJCAA is permitting member institutions to provide general health insurance coverage to all student-athletes if
they so choose. Currently this is an exception only for the 2020-2021 academic year. The Eligibility Committee is considering allowing this moving
forward beyond 2020-2021 but nothing definitive has been determined beyond the 2020-2021 academic year.
