MINI-COURSES
Case 1
Mini-Courses
SITUATION:
September 1st is the beginning date of the fall term and Student-Athlete R enrolls part-time by the 18 th calendar day of the term.
th
Student-Athlete R’s nine (9) credit hours start on September 1. On October 15 , Student-Athlete R began attending and enrolled in an
th
additional three (3) credit mini-course. Is Student-Athlete R eligible to participate in basketball which begins on November 17 ?
ANSWER:
Yes. Because of three factors. Student-Athlete R enrolled part-time by the 18 th calendar day of the term, Student-Athlete R enrolled full-
time prior to their participation and because a minimum of nine (9) of those credit hours begin prior to the last regular season game.
Case 2
SITUATION: Mini-Courses – Dropping and Adding
Student-Athlete R enrolls in Community College A as a full-time student on or before the 18 th calendar day of the fall term and wants to
participate in soccer. After four weeks, Student-Athlete R withdraws from a course and drops to part-time.
Community College A offers a mini-course which begins at mid-semester and Student-Athlete R enrolls in the mini-course on October 12 th
that will again bring his/her status back to full-time. After enrolling in the mini-course, when is Student-Athlete R eligible at Community College
A to begin participating in intercollegiate athletics?
ANSWER:
Student-Athlete R becomes eligible on the date in which he/she enrolled in the mini-session course. If the mini-session course starts
after the end of the regular soccer season, the student must be enrolled in nine (9) credits that begin prior to the end of the regular season
schedule. Student-Athlete R was ineligible for athletic participation starting with the day he/she dropped to below full-time until the day
th
he/she enrolled in the mini-session course which was on October 12 . If he/she does not have nine (9) credits that begin prior to the end of
the regular season schedule they would have remained ineligible for the season.

Yes. As per Article V, Section 2.C.1 and Article V, Section 2.C.2 the student-athlete must be enrolled part-time or full-time on the 18 th
calendar day of the term (not to end on a weekend or holiday). Because the student-athlete was enrolled part-time on the 18 th calendar
