A. Introduction:

One of the essential parts of life in today’s world is electricity. It is a

controllable and convenient form of energy. It is being used in almost

every sector of modern society like households, commercial, transport

and industry etc. to make life faster and easier.

B. What is Current and Circuit?

(i) Electric Charge:

• A charge is a physical entity which is defined by excess or deficiency

of electrons on a body.

• A body is said to be negatively charged, if it gains electrons, eg. an

ebonite rod rubbed with fur acquires a negative charge.

• A body is said to be positively charged, if it loses electrons eg. a glass

rod is rubbed with silk cloth acquires positive charge.

• The SI unit of charge is Coulomb (C)
