CHAPTER 1

            ELECTRICITY

          Example 1:

A current of 150 mA allowed to flow through a circuit for 2min.

Compute the amount of charge that will flow through the circuit.

          Solution:

                                                     -3
          Given, Current I=150mA=150×10 A

          Time, t=2min=2×60s=120s

          Amount of charge, q=?

          We know that, q=I×t

                             -3
          ⟹q=It=150×10 ×120=18C

So, 18C of charge flows around the circuit.

          Example 2:

          A total of 6 × 10 electrons are flowing through a current-carrying
                                 46
conductor in 20s when connected through an external power supply.

Find the value of current in the conductor.

          Solution:

                                                                  46
Given, total number of electrons, n=6×10 electrons

          Time, t=20s, Current, I= ?

                             46
            q ne 6×10 ×1.6×10 -19
                                                       26
          I=   =     =                       =4.8×10 A
             t t 20

                                                                                           26
Thus, the current passing through the conductor is 4.8×10 A.

                                                                                                                  7
