u PRESIDENT’S VIEWPOINT u JOHN MCLINDEN, AGS
  Reflections Eventful
As you read this message, we are
nearing the end of the dog days of summer and looking forward to the fall. Personally, fall is my favourite time of year as we get into cooler nights, shorter days and the turf tends to rebound from a long, hot summer. The cooler temperatures of fall almost seem to bring a sense of comfort as we trade in our shorts and golf shirts for coats and gloves.
One of my obligations as your President is to represent the CGSA at different levels of activities and events throughout the year. These last few months have been exciting as I have been able to meet countless, interesting people and I have visited some magnificent parts of Canada.
NATIONAL GOLF DAY
After a four year pause due to Covid restrictions, I was privileged to attend National Golf Day on Parliament Hill in Ottawa on May 22nd and 23rd. The CGSA joined the other 4 national golf associations of NAGA and proudly
represented the turf industry by promoting the game of golf to MP’s and their staff. As a unified voice, NAGA emphasized the environmental and economic impacts the sport provides as well as the health benefits the participants reap. To learn more about the successful day on Parliament Hill, read the article featured in this issue.
SUMMER SHAMBLE
I was grateful to attend the inaugural Summer Shamble held at picturesque Chester Golf Club in Chester Nova Scotia on June 24th and 25th. This was truly a memorable experience as the east coast hospitality was on full display. Special thanks to Matt Blackburn and all his team for providing an exceptional golf course to play along with the tour provided by Jeff Mingay. We look forward to continuing this event as it moves around to various parts of the country in coming years.
