u CEO’S VIEWPOINT u KATHRYN WOOD, CMP
As I write this article, I have just
returned from the inaugural Summer Shamble at Chester Golf Club in Nova Scotia, and I am pleased to say that it was a success! I thank all those who attended, sponsored and shared in the experience. Congratulations to the winners and thank you to Matthew Blackburn, host Superintendent, Alex Egan, host GM and the full team at Chester Golf Club for allowing us to enjoy your property and hospitality.
This spring, I had the opportunity to visit Ottawa as part of National Golf Day. Here, alongside our colleagues at Golf Canada, National Golf Course Owners Association Canada, PGA of Canada and Club Management Association of Canada, we met with numerous MPs, staff members of key ministries, senators and cabinet members. We shared the results of the 2023 Economic Impact Study (EIS) which showed growth and improved prosperity of the industry when compared to the 2019 edition. We are a large industry and bringing our positive attributes forward for recognition as such, is an important part of our activities.
Cheers to
another
busy and
successful
summer!
Kathryn with CGSA Past President (2000) Merlin Affleck at the Summer Shamble.
CGSA has been engaged in recognizing Superintendents across the country who have hosted tournaments on the national stage this season. Superintendents spend so much time and effort preparing golf courses each day. We recognize the additional undertaking of planning, labour, and precision required by the host Superintendents during these events. Congratulations to all who have hosted this past season.
We are looking forward to seeing you at our Fall Field Day at Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club in Vancouver on September 23, 2024. As well, remember to save the dates for the 2025 Canadian Golf Course Management Conference in partnership with the Ontario Golf Superintendents Association in Niagara Falls, Ontario, February 25 – 27, 2025. Planning is underway and it is shaping up to be an exciting event. Make sure to mark your calendars as you won’t want to miss being in a new location at one of Canada’s premiere tourist areas.
Until next time!
