this can mean adding another circuit, but with LEDs you are able to incor- porate more lights and use less wire without over loading your circuit”. Pheasant Run was able to install five times the amount of lights using the same amount of watts.
The chart below shows the conversion between the four major lighting types and the amount of watts needed to produce the same lumens (or brightness).

The biggest hurdle when thinking about switching to LED lighting is the initial cost of the bulbs. The good news on LEDs are that these lights, quality-wise, are quite good and they put out enough light for a lot of needs. But, there is no getting around the fact that LED bulbs for general lighting are a new technology that comes with a price premium.
If you were considering switch- ing to LEDs, you would need to take a long view from a financial perspective. Prices vary as you shop around with different suppliers, but the average LED bulb is priced
between $20 and $40. Compared to the average incandescent at $2, the cost of energy efficiency can be a hard number to swallow. Keep in mind, with the growing popularity of LED lighting, prices are drop- ping and are forecasted to continue to drop as more people are making the switch. With LEDs long life, your annual hydro savings will far surpass the initial cost of the bulbs.
Pheasant Run Golf Club retrofitted their entire clubhouse and workshop to LED lighting in 2013. “We saved $11,000 on energy in the first year, and we will continue to see these savings for
the lifetime of the bulb, which in our case, will last a minimum of the remaining guaranteed 6 years.”
The course experienced more savings by keeping all the labour in house, and a provincial program at the time offered a 50% rebate to- wards the total costs of switching to LED. Pheasant Run Golf Club saw their return of their total $22,000 investment within the first year of switching.
Below is a useful summary of golf clubs across Canada that have switched to LED lighting demonstrat- ing the total cost of the project, annual savings and projected savings.
