The smaller footprint of the spaces at The Club at North Halton directed several key decisions, including the need for double lockers and for finessing the layout to eliminate long sight lines.
When and if the requirements demand a more substantial approach, then professional advice should be sought. There are no absolute cost estimates available as there are too many variables to be considered on a situation by situation basis, but suffice to say the DIY approach is the most cost effective.
RENOvATIONS
The Club at North Halton is one of our recent projects, and is a great example of the renovations category. Situated in the heart of Georgetown, Ontario, this club has long roots in this established community as a centre for golf, curling, and socializing at any point throughout a busy week.
One of the more structured approaches to gaining input was a strategic study undertaken to determine “what the members wanted”, says Kyle Stewart, General Manager, “and locker rooms were first on the list”.
The smaller footprint of the spaces; men’s and women’s locker rooms, and the desire to maintain a lounge area in both, directed several key decisions: the need for double lockers and the finessing of the layout to eliminate long sight lines providing privacy between the lounges and the change areas.
Electrical panels and columns were clad with matching panels and unique towel storage units were developed to accommodate the characteristics of the building.
The thermo-fused finish was used to ensure durability against any moisture from the shower area as well as general cleanings. The consensus from the 1,000+ members is that they, “love the locker rooms and are finding them very functional,” comments Stewart.
With respect to costs, projects of this nature are custom and depend solely on the quality of options selected. The ultimate price will always depend on the clients’ needs, wants, dreams, and perceived value long-term.
MAjOR RENOvATIONS
Major renovations often require professional architectural consulting in order to map out a master plan. Engage this professional early in the process because they can help with decisions such as selecting the right paint colour or texture for your furniture and assist with technical decisions such as wiring and architectural plans.
Conduct an interview process to hire a professional that best suits your facility. Outline the scope of work anticipated and find a consultant that you are comfortable with. The professional should understand your requirements, needs and vision.
One of the main benefits of hiring a professional is that you can focus on managing the club, and the professional will guide you through the process and know what steps need to be taken at which stage of the game. A professional architectural/interior design practice will charge anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000 for a preliminary consultation. The working consultant fees will typically range between 10% to 18% of the entire project construction value.
