The grant supported the project to promote and protect the people’s rights to land and housing and establish community alert mechanisms to preserve and mitigate land expropriation and house demolitions.
This project supported the institutional and programmatic capacity of LAKDES in promoting access to education for children with disabilities.
This project contributed to the achievement of OSISA’s Shared Framework strategy, goal 3 ‘Supporting small-scale farmer’s movements and strengthening community leadership’ that promotes community-based climate change adaptation awareness and capacity. As a sustainable response to the recurrent climate-related droughts that Angola has experienced in recent years.
The project strengthened and empowered women informal traders’ organisations to promote and advocate for their economic and social rights and be legally recognised as part of the country’s economy. Furthermore, it contributed to a better understanding of Angola’s informal trade focussing on women’s economic, social rights, safety, social security protection, and recognition, not as a social problem, but as a contributor to the economy and livelihood of millions of people.
The proposed project aimed to provide support to the Human Rights Monitoring and Working Group in Angola (GTMDH) to continue monitoring, drafting parallel human rights reports and engage with national and international human rights entities such as the Ministry of Justice and the Ombudsman Office, the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACPHRs) and United Nations Human Rights Council periodic reviews and actively participate in advocacy, and lobbying activities.
This project proposal intended to support the integration of human rights education in the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN) to promote knowledge and information, and enhance culture, values and principles in academia, particularly among law students. The integration of human rights in the curriculum is intended to provide a unique opportunity to establish a space for human rights issues and themes. It is thus providing a platform for human rights to be taught and learned as a course on its own that will promote discussions, research and the possibility of senior students to practice law in a legal clinic to be created.
The grant is intended to allow civil society’s participation in the discussion regarding the upcoming 2020 local elections in Angola.
