Fourth Grade Field Trip — Mrs. Huff
Fourth Grade had an excellent visit to the newly reopened Cincinnati Museum Center in early January. They engaged in a Learning Lab called Coming to America, where they learned about various groups that immigrated to Ohio in the 1800 and 1900’s. They dug through travelers’ suitcases, determined “push” and “pull” factors of why people were immigrating to Ohio, and went through an Immigration Station to determine if they would even make it to Ohio!
Students were able to explore the new Dinosaur Hall in the Natural History Museum. While none of our students are knee high on an apatosaurus (9ft), some of them discovered that if they were to theoretically stand on top of each other they could be! While using the giant globe to see the continents move over Earth’s history we learned that Cincinnati used to be under the ocean!
We moved into the renovated Public Landing where students searched the Queen of the West for a Baldwin piano and a passenger’s missing glove. Students learned that some people only had $25 to spend on clothes for an entire year! They used their fabulous problem solving skills to determine which fabric and pattern would be the best buys at the dressmaking shop. Many students had their picture taken in costumes using an old- fashioned camera. Thanks to our chaperones for figuring out how to do this! We can’t wait for more of the exhibits to open!
