CAT-005
I don’t know what kind of tree you are,
but I know you are strong.
Living wood splitting through a great slab of solid
stone on the top of the hill.
You are not alone– your brothers stand around,
each driving through the rock in its own position.
The steady, inexorable force of Life-
perhaps only acting at immeasurably tiny distances,
but as the years pass and those distances are added
one to another, what a difference it can make!
You are stubborn.
You cling to your leaves like you cling to the stone
and you will not surrender your hold until the day
that you fall beneath your own weight.
You reach upward for the light and it shines fiercely
on your head, warrior greeting warrior
with the salute of kinship.
