CAT-003
Branching poplar with your feet by the river.
I can hear a rushing little rapid nearby.
There must have been a lot of water over
the past few days. The ford at the entrance
to the old forest is flowing enough to make
crossing with cameras just a little worrying.
Funny how that first stretch of forest makes
me think of a Queensland rainforest.
Absurd, really.
Poplar, your leaves have almost all fallen;
they were only beginning to turn when I first
came to you. They lie gold and brown
around your roots, ready to put nutrients
back into the thick veins that wrap across
your trunk.
