A.S.C.E.N.D

The kickoff of the second cycle of the ASCEND program
was held Saturday, September 17, 2016. Epsilon Gamma
Omega (EGO) welcomed 24 participants (from schools
located in Madison, Morgan and Limestone Counties) and
their parents/guardians to the program. The Kickoff
included a program overview by Soror Dawn Stanley, goal
setting by Dr. Earnest Davis, post-secondary school
educational options by Dr. Wyla Washington, career
exploration, STEM SMART Expo (science fair) guidelines, community service plans, United Nations
classroom overview and team-building activity.
Throughout the year, which runs September to June, SMART STEM activities will include an activity
with Hudson Alpha and NASA. In addition, college exploration, career exploration, STEM,
enrichment, community service and cultural exposure will be addressed.
ASCEND stands for achieving, self-awareness, communication, engagement, networking and
developing. EGO is excited to partner with Omicron Zeta and Gamma Mu Chapters in the
execution of this signature program.
