The One Million Backpacks Program is a Target I: Educational Enrichment program, aimed to help
students prepare for their upcoming academic year, by providing them with backpacks filled with
school supplies. During the months of May through August, Epsilon Gamma Omega held, the first
of many, One Million Backpacks campaign and supply drive. Also, funds raised by the Membership
Committee and volunteer efforts of Sorors at the Von Braun Center Family Fun Day, were used to
make purchases. Yes, Target I reached its goal of helping 96 students!
Once all supplies were received, the One Million Backpacks Committee partnered with the Sisterly
Relations Committee to host a “Backpack Party” on July 27th at the Oscar Mason Center. At the party,
Sorors enjoyed food and fellowship while working
together to assemble backpacks and supplies. Epsilon
Gamma Omega partnered with the Huntsville
Housing Authority for distributing the backpacks, to
ensure that supplies were given to students in need.
On Thursday, July 30th, EGO Sorors distributed 130
backpacks to children of Mason Court and Butler
Sorors Cheryl R. Davis, Sharon Boclair and Wilma Ruffin Terrace. At each site, students and their parents also
helping children fill their backpacks with school supplies. received information about “Think HBCU” and

provided by a local pastor. Our distribution really
made a huge splash, but we were not done yet! An additional 20 backpacks were donated to the
children of the Harris Home for Children, to ensure each of those students had supplies for the
academic year. These efforts, allowed EGO to impact approximately 150 students—going above and
beyond our set goal!!
A huge thank you goes to all of the Sorors that supported by donating, volunteering time, or
fundraising! We look forward to making a greater impact next school year!!!
