Strickland shot rounds of 27 – 26 – 32 –
27 to attain a two-stroke lead over Ralph
Sapp of Augusta, GA and Glenn Garvin of
Pensacola, FL. Moore shot rounds of 28 –
33 – 28 – 28 and was lingering 4 shots
back with 8 rounds to play.
At the end of day-2, Ralph Sapp held a 3-
stroke lead over Moore, 2 strokes over
Herman Strickland, and a slim one-stroke
lead over Glenn Garvin of Pensacola,
Florida.
By the last round of the final day, there

would be several rain delays and shifts
with the leaders. Strickland held a 2-stroke lead over Sapp and a 3 -
stroke lead over Moore. Garvin faded early in round-9 and never
recovered. But during the final round, things changed quickly by hole 4.
On the third hole, Moore, aced. Sapp bogeyed holes 2 & 3, and

Strickland double-bogeyed the 4 hole. Strickland and Moore were
now tied, and Sapp was trailing by just a few strokes. Strickland and
Sapp aced 3 holes to close out the front nine – Moore aced two holes.
Strickland had a one stroke lead over Moore and two strokes over Sapp
with nine holes remaining in the championship. On the back nine,
Moore aced 10,12,13, and 16, but bogeyed 18. Strickland aced 13, 14,
& 15 to take a one stroke lead with three holes remaining. After a
lengthy rain delay, the players returned to the course. For most of the
remaining holes, standing water was not interfering with play, except
for hole 16, a straight hole with an incline at the end of the hole of
which flattened out on top – where the hole was located. Water had
collected at the base of the incline. The remaining players had a choice
to have the hole cleared of water before putting, but it did not take
