Greg Newport – 2010 National Putting Champion

Greg Newport joined the PPA in 1990. During the week he works for a distribution company and
during the weekends he is traveling to a tournament at one of the numerous mini-golf tours. It did not
take long for Newport to become known as a formidable opponent on the PPA Tour. He won the 2010
National Putting Championship by 4 strokes in Lynchburg, VA. He is also the player that has scored
the most recent 18, approximately 5 years after Baird’s 18. Most folks familiar with the PPA know that
the 18 was scored on the same course as Rick Baird’s, which was Richmond, Virginia . What most
players, outside the VA Tour may not know, is that it was numerically the same course – which was
course number 3: however, some of the course holes were not the same…and new carpet had replaced
the carpet of which Baird scored his 18. New carpet can influence the roll of the hole and require new
shots to be utilized to ace the hole consistently – which is the goal for PPA and APA players. Also,
