HOW GOD PROTECTED HIS CHOSEN PEOPLE ND LED THEM INTO THE PROMISED L ND
It was only for a while that the descendants of Jacob were happy in the land of Egypt. We shall see in this Unit how they became slaves after the death of Joseph. But God was mindful of His promises and He raised up a great leader to de­ liver them from the Egyptians. We shall see how Moses was called to lead the Chosen People back to the land of Chanaan. We shall learn of the won­ derful thing that happened in the desert at Mount Sinai and how God, out of love for His people, showed them by means of the Ten Commandments how they must live if they wished to be happy. We shall learn why it was that the Israelites were forced to wander in the desert for forty years be­
fore they entered the Promised Land. We shall learn about Josue-the great leader whom God raised up after the death of foses and who nally led the people into the Land of Promise. We shall see how God Himself watched over the people and ruled them by means of holy men who were called Judges. We shall see how the Judges led the Israelites to victory over their enemies and did not allow them to forget the promises that God
had made. From the beautiful story of Ruth w shall learn how God in His providence was laying the foundations for the royal family from whom the King of Kings would come.
