his mind. So he sent back the king's spear and went his way. Saul returned to his palace.
It was about this time that the prophet Samuel died. He was mourned by all the people and was buried in Ramatha.
5. SAUL Drns AND Is BuRIED
The Philistines gathered together their armies to 's wage a new war on the Israelites. They camped in e Sunam, and Saul assembled his force at Gelboe. When Saul saw how great were the forces of the Philistines,
he became afraid and asked the Lord to tell him what to do. But God did not answer him, either by dreams, or by priests, or by prophets.
After the death of Samuel, Saul had driven all the magicians and fortune tellers out of the land. But now =of he said to his servants, ''Seek me out a woman who is
a fortune teller that I may go and consult her.'' They
said to him, "There is a witch at Endor."
Saul disguised himself and, taking two men with him, went to consult the witch of Endor. It was night when he came to her and he said, '' Call up the spirit of him whom I shall tell thee.''
At rst the woman refused. She told them that Saul had driven all witches out of the land. She accused them of being agents of the king who had come to enĀ trap her. But Saul told her that nothing would happen to her. "Whom shall I bring up to you?" she asked. He answered, "Bring me up Samuel."
Hearing this, the woman cried out with a loud voice, saying, ''Why hast thou deceived me, for thou art
