Nathan said to the king, ''There were two men in a city-the one rich, the other poor. The rich man had very many. sheep and oxen, but the poor man had noth­ ing at all but one little lamb which he had brought up and fed and which had grown up in his house together with his children, eating of his bread and drinking of his cup and sleeping near him. One day a stranger came to the rich man. The rich man made a feast for him, but he did not kill any of his own sheep and oxen, but took the poor man's lamb and prepared it for the man who came to eat with him."
When David heard this, he was very angry and said to Nathan,"As the Lord liveth, the man who hath done this thing shall be put to death."
Then Nathan said to David, "Thou art the man, and God hath sent me to thee with this message, 'I anointed thee king over Israel, and delivered thee from the hand of Saul. I have placed thee over all the people, and given thee a kingdom to rule. Why, therefore, didst thou kill Urias and take his wife to be thy wifet Therefore, the sword shall never depart from tyh house, and I will raise up evil against thee in thy own family.'" David said to Nathan,"I have sinned against the Lord.''
When Nathan saw that David was sorry for his sins and asked God to forgive him, he said to him, ''The Lord hath taken away thy sin. Thou shalt not die, but the child that is born to thee shall surely die.'' Nathan returned to his house. Some time later a son was born to David and Bethsabee.
