widow gathering sticks. He called to her and said, "Give me a little water that I may drink." As she went to get the water, he called after her, saying, ''Bring me also, I beseech thee, a piece of bread.'' She answered, "I have no bread. I have only a handful ofmealandalittleoil. WithitIshallpreparethelast meal for my son and me, and after that we must die of hunger.'' Eliassaidtoher,''Fearnot. Go,doasthou hast said. But rst make for me a little cake of the same meal and bring it to me. The Lord God of Israel will not let thy portion of meal and oil grow less until it pleaseth Him to give rain upon the face of the earth.''
She obeyed the word of Elias. From that day until the end of the famine, her portion of meal and oil remained undiminished, as God had promised by the word of Elias.
