him, and he begged G to let life return to the body
of the boy. The Lord heard the voice of Elias, and w'
raised the boy to life. Elias gave the son to his S mother and said, ''Behold, thy son is living.'' The woman said, "Now, by this I know that thou art a man
of God, and thy word is true.''
On account of the drought, Achab had man y of the AM prophets of the true Go illed. He wanted to kill Elias too, but searched for him in vain throughout the kingdom. He sent messengers to the neighboring nations to seek the prophet, but they did not nd him.
In the third year of the drought, God said to Elias, "Go, show thyself to Achab, that I may give rain on the face of the earth." Elias went and appeared beĀ fore Achab. There was a great famine in Samaria, the king's capital. Achab and Abdias, the governor of the king's household, had gone into all the land to nd for for the horses and mules, to save them
om death. Achab went one way and Abdias another. On the way Abdias met Elias, and he knew him. He bowed low to him and asked, ''Art thou my lord Elias?'' Elias answered, ''I am. Go tell thy master Elias is here.'' Abdias feared God and, when Achab had killed the pmphets, he had hid one hundred prophets in a cave, and carried bread and water to them to keep them alive. But Abdias was not willing to take the message of Elias to his master. He feared that Elias would disappear again, and that the king would kill him for deceiving him. But Elias promised to appear before Achab that day. Abdias took the
message to Achab, and Achab came to meet Elias.
