The men of Ninive believed that Jonas was a mesĀ senger from God and began a great fast. All the people, from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth and did penance. When God saw their humble hearts and their works of penance, He had mercy and spared
them.
Our blessed Savior used the story of onas when He
foretold His Resurrection. He said, ''As Jonas was in the whale's belly for three days and three nights, so shall the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.''
