know that it is for my sake that this great tempest is upon you." They cast Jonas into the sea, and the sea became calm.
The Lord prepared a great  sh to swallow Jonas. So when the sailors cast him overboard, the  sh swal­ lowed him up, and Jonas remained in the belly of the  sh for three days and three nights. He prayed to the Lord, and God caused the  sh to cast him up on the shore.
A second time God spoke to Jonas and said to him, ''Arise, and go to Ninive, the great city, and preach in it.'' Jonas arose and went to Ninive, according to the word of the Lord. He entered the city and cried out, ''Yet forty days and Ninive shall be destroyed.''
