"The Chaldeans have fallen upon the camels and taken them. They have killed the servants with the sword. I alone Bscaped to tell thee."
While he was yet speaking, still another came in and said, ''A violent wind shook the house in which thy sons and daughters were feasting. The house fell upon thy children, and behold, they are all dead. I alone escaped to tell thee.''
Job rose and, as a sign of sorrow, rent his garments. He fell upon the ground and worshiped God, and said, ·'The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.''
On another day Satan stood before God. God said to Satan, '' Hast thou considered My servant Job 1 He hath kept his innocence in spite of his su ering.''
Satan answered and said, "All that a man hath he will give for his life. Put forth Thy hand and touch his  esh and bone, and he will not bless Thee.''
The Lord said to Satan, "I give thee power over his person, but save his life."
Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord. He struck Job with an ulcer which covered him from the sole_of his foot to the top of his head. Job sat on a
dunghill· ,and scraped the corruption from his sores.
su ering. Job answered her, "We have received good things from the Lord. Why should we not receive evil things also f''
Job's friends came to him. Instead of consoling him in his su ering, they added new sorrow. They
