330 CHRIST PREPARES TO REDEEM THE WORLD
BETHLEHEM  'ODAY
born into the world. Mary wrapped the Divine Infant
in swaddling clothes and laid Him in a manger.
  . Not far away a group of shepherds were keeping the  lion night-watches over their  ocks to protect them from  ph ds wolves or robbers. Suddenly an angel of the Lord
appeared to them, and the brightness of heaven shone about them. The shepherds feared with a great fear, but the angel said to them, ''Fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, that shall be to all the people. For this day is born to you a Savior, Who is Christ the Lord, in the City of David. And this shall be a sign unto you: You shall  nd the Infant wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger."
He had no sooner spoken than the shepherds saw with him a great multitude of angels, and heard them praising God and saying, ''Glory to God in the high­ est; and on earth peace to men of good will.'' Then the angels· disappeared.
The hearts of the shepherds were  lled with wonder,
