the heads of the people standing around. There hap pened to be a sycamore tree growing near at hand a , running to it, Zacheus climbed up into its branches, so that he might see Jesus as He passed by.
Coming to the tree, Jesus looked up and saw Zacheus. "Make haste," He said to him, "and come down; for this day I must abide in thy house.''
Zacheus made haste, came down from the tree, and received Jesus in his home with great joy. When the crowd saw this, they murmured against Jesus because He chose to b the guest of a man whom they consid ered a sinner. But Zacheus said, "Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have
wronged any man of anything, I restore it to him fourfold." Jesus said to him, "This day is salvation come to this house, for the Son of Man is come to seek and save that which was lost.''
J h Passing through Samaria, Jesus and His apostles came one day to a city that was called Sichar. Out
side the town there was a well which had been dug by the patriarch Jacob. It was late in the afternoon, and that day they had journeyed far. Jesus was. weary and He sat on the well to rest while His disciples went into the city to buy food.
While Jesus was sitting there, a woman of Samaria tan came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me to drink.'' Hearing this, the woman was very much sur prised and said, ''How dost Thou, being a Jew, ask of me to drink, who am a Samaritan woman1 For the
Jews do not mingle with the Samaritans."
Jesus did not take o ense at this answer. Instead,
