ple to understand that God loves us, not because we belong to a certain family or to a certain race, but because we do His holy will. No one ever obeyed the will of the Father in Heaven any more perfectly than Mary. That is y she was chosen to be the Mother of God.
Many of those who listened to Jesus were attracted by His doctrine and felt in their hearts a desire to follow Him. But they also loved the things of this world and did not have the courage to give them up. One day, one of the scribes came to Jesus and said, "Master, I will follow Thee whithersoever Thou shalt go.'' But Jesus knew that he was not sincere and that he loved the things of this world, so He said to him,
''The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air nests. But the Son of Man hath not whereon to lay His head.''
One of His disciples said, "I will follow Thee; Lord, but let me rst take leave of them that are at home.'' Jesus said to him, "No man putting his hand to the plow and looking back is t for the Kingdom of God.''
''He that is not with Me, is against Me,'' said the Savior. "He that gathereth not with Me, scattereth. No man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will bear with the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and
Mammon.''
In order to show the people how foolish it is to live
for this world and its pleasures, He told them this story:
