Amanwhowasdeafandd bwasbroughttoJesus one day as He was walking along the shores of the Sea of Galilee. His friends begged Jesus to lay His hand upon him and cure him. Taking him apart from the crowd, Jesus put His  ngers into his ears and, spitting, He touched his tongue, and looking up to Heaven, He groaned and said to him, "Ephpheta," which is, "Be thou opened.'' And  mediately his ears were opened and the string of his tongue was loosed and he co d hear and speak. The people said, "He hath done all things well. He hath made both the deaf to hear and the dumb to speak.''
The ceremony used by our Lord when He performed this  racle has been adopted by His Church and she has made it part of the rite of Baptism.
One of the most terrible diseases that can come to a human being is leprosy. It is like a living death, and those who su er from it in its worst form actually rot away. Nowadays we have hospitals for lepers, where they receive the best that medical skill can  ive them
