and servants began to search the garden in order to  nd Jesus. Judas had given them a sign, saying, "Whomsoever I shall kiss, that is He; lay hold on Him, and lead Him away carefully.''
Jesus did not try to hide away from the mob, but went forth to meet them. ''Whom seek ye¥'' He asked. They answered, ''Jesus of Nazareth.'' Jesus said to them, "I am He." Then Judas came forward and said, "Hail, Rabbi," and he kissed Him.
Jesus said to him, ''Judas, dost thou betray the Son of Man with a Kiss¥"
As soon as Jesus had said "I am He," the mob that was with Judas went backward and fell to the ground. Again Jesus asked them, ''Whom seek ye¥'' They said, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus answered, "I have
told you that I am He. Then, pointing to His apostles, He said, "If therefore you seek M, let these go their way.''
This time the soldiers came up and laid hands on Jesus and held him.
When the apostles saw their beloved Master in the hands of these ru ans, they cried out, ''Lord, shall we strike with the sword V '' And Simon Peter, draw­ ing his sword, struck the servant of the high priest and cut o  his right ear. The name of the servant was Malchus.
But Jesus said to Peter, "Put up thy sword into the scabbard, for all that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot ask My Father, and He will give Me presently more than twelve
