labors were in vain. Many came who bore false wit­ ness against Him, but they contradicted themselves, no two of them agreeing in t eir accusations. Finally, they found two witnesses who said, "We heard Him say, 'I am able to destroy the Temple of God, and after three days to rebuild it.' "
At last, the high priest rose up and said to Jesus, ''Answerest Thou nothing to the things which these witnesses say against Thee 7 '' But Jesus held His peace and answered not a word.
Then the high priest said to Him, "I adjure Thee by the living God, that Thou tell us if Thou be the Christ, the Son of God."
