Late into the night, the apostles and the others re- T mained in the Cenacle, talking about the wonderful f things that had happened. They had locked th doors, sins for fear that some agent of the chief priests and Pharisees might nd them out. Suddenly, Jesus stood
in their midst, and said to them, "Peace be to you."
They became frightened, because they thought that they were seeing a ghost. But He said, ''Why are you troubled, and why do thoughts arise in your heartsT See My hands and feet, and know that it is I Myself; lrnndle, and see, for a spirit hath not esh and bones, as you see Me to have." When He said this, He showed them His hands and feet. But though their hearts were lled with joy, they were not quite sure that it was Jesus in truth. So He said, "Have you here anything to eatt'' And they o ered Him a piece of broiled sh and a honeycomb. And when He had eaten before them, taking the remains, He gave to them.
Now they were sure that it was Jesus, and not a spirit. Then said He, "Peace be to you. As the Father hath sent Me, I also send you." When He had said this, He breathed on them, and said, "Receive yetheHolyGhost. Whosesinsyoushallforgive,they are forgiven them; whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.''
