'rHE DISCIPLES BEG JESUS TO REMAIN AT EMMAUS
sight. Their hearts lled with wonder, and they said one to the other, "Was not our heart burning within us, whilst He spoke in the way, and opened to us the Scripturesf" And, rising up at once, they hastened back to Jerusalem.
There they found the eleven apostles gathered in the Cenacle, together with a number of other disciples of our Savior. Seeing Cleophas and his companion, the apostles greeted them with the words ''The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon.''
Then the two who had been to Emmaus told them of all that had happened on the way; and how they knew Him in the breaking of the bread.
