Early on Sunday mo ing, two of the disciples of
our Lord left Jerusalem and set out for Emmaus, a

lo town about sixty furlongs away. As they walked Emma along, they talked of all that had happened since Thursday night. Their hearts were sad within them, as they tried in vain to understand why it was that Jesus, in Whom they had believed so sincerely, had
come to such a terrible end.
As they were going along, they met a stranger, who
asked if he might walk th them. It was Jesus, but they did not recognize Him. "What is this conversa tion th' at you hold with one another as you walk," He asked ''andaresad?''
One of them, whose name was Cleophas, answered, '' Art thou a stranger in Jerusalem, that thou knowest nothing of what has been done there?'' He asked,
