528 CHRIST REDEEMS THE WORLD
His disciples and Peter that He goeth before you into Galilee; there you shall see Him, as He told you.'' Hearing this, the women  ed from the sepulcher, trembling with fear and joy. They hastened to Jeru­ salem to tell the apostles. But the words of the women seemed idle tales to the apostles and they did not be­ lieve them.
Peter and John had left the Cenacle when they heard from Mary Magdalen that the body of Jesus had dis­ appeared. They ran to the sepulcher, John outrun- ning Peter and arriving there  rst. Stooping down, he looked inside and saw the linen cloths, yet he did not go into the tomb but waited for Peter. A moment later Peter came up, and together they went in and saw the linen cloths, and the napkin that had been tied about the head of Jesus, not lying with the linen cloths, but apart, folded up. When they saw this, both of them believed, for as yet they knew not the Scripture, according to which Christ must rise again from the dead. Then they returned to the other apostles and told them what they had seen.

 ! sepulcher and stood at the door waiting. Stooping Magdalen down, she looked inside and saw two angels in white,
Some time later, Mary Magdalen returned to the
· sitting there, one at the head and one at the feet, where the body of Jesus had been laid. They said to her, ''Woman, why weepest thou¥'' She said to them, ''Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know
not where they have laid Him.''
Rising up, she turned around and saw Jesus stand­
ing there, but she did not recognize Him. He said to
