MELCHISEDECH MEETS ABRAM
those days, the king of this small city-state was at the same time a priest.
Melchisedech blessed Abram and said, ''Blessed be Abram, by the most high God, Who created heaven and earth. And blessed be the most high God, by Whose protection the enemies are in thy hands.'' And Abram o ered him a tenth part of all his possessions as a token of gratitude.
Because he o ered a sacri ce of bread and wine, Melchised h is an image of our Lord and Savior. The One Hundred and Ninth Psalm foretells how the Messias would be at the same time a great priest and a great king. It says:
