38 THE NATION FROM WHICH THE REDEEMER CAME
''The Lord said to my Lord; Sit Thou at My right hand: "Until I make Thy enemies Thy footstool.
''The Lord will send forth the scepter of Thy power out of
Sion : rule Thou in the midst of Thy enemies.
''With Thee is the principality in the day of Thy strength,
in the brightness of the saints: from the womb before the day-star I begot Thee.
''The Lord hath sworn, and He will not repent: Thou art a priest forever according to the order of Melchisedech.
''The Lord at Thy right hand hath broken kings in the day of His wrath.
''He shall judge among nations, He shall ll ruins: He shall crush the heads in the land of many.
''He shall drink of the torrent in the way: therefore shall He lift up the head."
God appeared to Abram in a vision and said, "Fear not, Abram. I am thy protector, and thy reward ex ceeding great. Look up to heaven and count the stars if thou canst. So shall thy descendants be.'' Abram believed God, and his faith was pleasing in the sight of the Lord.
But Abram and Sarai were growing old and they had no children. Sarai had an Egyptian servant maid named Agar. Sarai advised Abram to take Agar as his wife, hoping that through her God would give him a son. In those days, a man was permitted to have more than one wife, so Abram-followed Sarai's advice.
God sent an angel to Agar, who said to her, "Be hold, thou shalt bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Ismael. He shall be a wild man. His hand will be raised against all men, and all men's hands against him; and he shall pitch his tents over against all his brethren.''
