GOD'S GREAT FAVORS TO JACOB 59
Ion and Joseph. His daughter's name was Dina. One day while Laban was away from home shearing his sheep, Jacob took his family, his  ocks and his goods and set out for Chanaan. Laban did not learn of Jacob's departure until three days later and at once he set out in pursuit of him. He overtook Jacob in the mountains south of the Yarmuk River, and rebuked him, saying he would have accompanied him gladly had he not stolen away so secretly.
Before Laban and Jacob separated this time, they set up a heap of stones. They prepared a meal and ate upon the heap and made a solemn agreement never to pass this spot to injure each other's possessions. Laban called the heap Galaad, or The Witness Heap.
3. ESAU AND JACOB ARE RECONCILED
When Jacob drew near to his native land, he sent T  s messengers to his brother Esau, with droves of camels = and cattle and sheep as gifts to gain his favor. Jacob hoped to make peace with him, but when the mesĀ­ sengers brought back word that Esau was coming
with four hundred men, Jacob was very much afraid. He divided his company into two groups, thinking that if one company were destroyed, the other might escape. Then Jacob asked the Lord to protect him.
During the night a stranger appeared to him and wrestled with him until morning. Jacob could not be overcome, so the stranger said to Jacob, ''Let me go, for it is break of day." Jacob answered, "I will not let thee go unless thou. bless me.'' Then the angel, for such it was, blessed him and said, ''Thy name
