        Brief description of the learning ecosystem

        The eta College is a Private Higher tertiary institution, registered with the DHET, offering accredited qualifications in fitness, coaching, and sports management courses. eta
        College has ten campuses in South Africa, including an online campus. Eta College provides several short courses, higher certificates, advanced certificates and diplomas in

        the fitness and sports management field.


        Brief description of the content to be assessed

        The first-year course, Exercise programme design (20 credits), is part of the Higher Certificate in Fitness programme, NQF level 5. Students are required to design, monitor, and
        implement exercise (cardiovascular, resistance, flexibility and speed and power) programmes based on the principles of exercise science. Student’s prior knowledge to this course

        includes, Anatomy and Biomechanics, Exercise Physiology, Screening, Assessment, and Testing. For this task, the focus will only be on the design, monitor and implement resistance
        training programmes. Students should be able to develop and design various resistance training programmes according to needs, ability, and goals of “clients”. Content to be

        assessed is understanding and applying the basic concepts and principles exercise science to programme design and creating appropriate and save exercise programmes using data
        retrieved during the screening and testing process.


        Learning outcome

        Identify the key aspects underlying an effective resistance training program, applying these factors to construct scientifically sound training programmes.


        Assessment Indicators:

            1.     The importance of a client's abilities, needs and goals are explained, applying these parameters to the design of a resistance training programme (Application)
            2.     The resistance training overload is adapted to suit the client's goals and training level. (Application)

            3.     Strength training methods and equipment are described and applied according to client's training level, needs and goals. (Application)
