Remember there are two types of texture in Design and Visual
Arts:
1. Literal/tactile texture, which is the texture that you can
actually feel with your fingers. It maybe bumpy, smooth or
rough.
2. Illusionary/visual texture, which occurs when artists and
designers give the illusion of texture that is not actually
there by the way they create their work, for example it looks
rough but it’s printed on smooth paper.
In the block below, create a collage. Remember a collage is a
technique in which textured materials are stuck down onto a
flat surface. Collect various literal textures in the form of
different kinds of paper, cardboard, tinfoil, string, wood, seeds
etc. Arrange these textures in an interesting way. Include the
word “collage” in a creative way.
Now collect different visual textures from magazines, newspapers and photographs (any printed
material). In the block below, arrange these textures in an interesting way, creating your own
montage. A montage is a technique whereby only photographic/printed images are used in a
composition. Remember to have an underlying design or pattern. Include the word “montage” as
your focal point.
