APPLICATION FOR PRE-RETIREMENT DEATH
BENEFITS
If you die before retiring and your surviving spouse is entitled to
a death benefit, he or she must file a pension application with the
Administrative Office. This application can be obtained from the
Administrative Office or the local union office at any time after
your death.
Before the Administrative Office can make pre-retirement death
payments, it must verify the amount of retirement benefit you
had earned, including any credited past service (periods prior to
your effective date of coverage). Because of this calculation, it
may take the Administrative Office 120 days or longer to process
an application.
