Gratitude
Farewell, Dr. Roof
We’d like to offer Dr. Lee Whitney Roof a fond farewell and gratitude for
all that he has done for the patients of Whidbey Island. Dr. Roof retired on
March 1 from Whidbey Island Internal Medicine in Coupeville, a practice that
gained deep respect in our community since it opened its doors in 1983.
Dr. Roof has been well-loved for his years of service treating a wide swath
of patients from both the north, central and south ends of the island. He is a
physician who provided long-term, comprehensive care in his office and at the
hospital, managing both common and complex illnesses of adolescents, adults
and the elderly.
He joined the hospital’s medical staff in 1982 and was instrumental in developing the hospitalist program, which
cares exclusively for acutely ill, hospitalized patients. As Quality and Patient Safety Medical Director, he also was
instrumental in implementing evidence-based protocols to improve care at the hospital.
Now the good doctor is setting off for a new journey of what we hope is abundant with rest, relaxation and what we
hear is a favorite past time: raising very large pumpkins.
Dear Dr. Roof, we wish you and all the providers of your staff who have also served this community well, all the best
in your future endeavors.
