Side Effects
Your physician will discuss and explain any side effects you may experience from proton therapy. Your nurse will help
you manage any side effects you may have.
Meeting with Your Doctor or Staff at the Center
Once a week (or every five treatments) you will meet with your doctor (radiation oncologist) to discuss how your therapy
is progressing. This is a good time to ask any questions you may have. In some cases, your doctor may order additional
tests such as blood tests, CTs, MRIs, or other scans during your treatment. Your weekly meetings with your doctor are
scheduled around treatment sessions, so there is no need to make an extra trip to the Center. An additional scan will
be performed before you come back to the Center for your follow-up appointment, usually three months after your
treatment is complete.
Bring Your Family or Loved One
We know how important it is to have the presence and support of those close to you. We encourage you to bring family and
loved ones with you to the Center if you can. We offer many special services to make all our visitors feel at home:
• Additional educational materials
• Regularly scheduled activities and events
• A children’s play room
• A beverage bar
For more information on these and other special services, see the Resources Available from Patient
Services section of this kit or check with the Patient Services Team.
