COMPELLING DATA
Among caregivers for people with
Alzheimer’s and other dementias:
» 86% have provided care for at least the
past year, and well over half (57%) had
provided care for four or more years. 1
» Nearly one in four are “sandwich
generation” caregivers—caring for both
an older adult and a child. 1
» 35% report that their health has gotten
worse due to care responsibilities,
compared to 19% of caregivers for older
people without dementia. 1
» Nearly 60% rate the emotional stress of
caregiving as high or very high. As many
as 40% report symptoms of depression. 1
» The physical and emotional impact on
caregivers for people with Alzheimer’s
and other dementias resulted in an
estimated $11.4 billion in increased
caregiver health costs in 2017. 1

three times more likely to fall than older
