PERIVALE APARTMENT

                                TH
            THURSDAY APRIL 16 1998

As welcoming as a couple of days in the sun with Gabriela would have been, with no sign of Arnold
Warner I decided on a quick return and we had been fortunate to find a couple of seats on a late
            night charter flight back home.

Although we had only a couple of hours sleep, Gabriela was already up and the wonderful aroma of
eggs and bacon drifted into the bedroom.

‘Were did you get all this food?’ I demanded.

Gabriela turned from the stove and kissed my cheek.

‘Didn’t you know there is a small supermarket around the corner? You need a bit of looking after so
            I cook full English breakfast.’

‘Well to be strictly accurate full English would include hash browns, and black pudding but eggs,
bacon toast and tomatoes will do just fine.’

I tucked into my hearty breakfast while Gabriela had toast and coffee.

‘Look I stammered, I need to apologise, I don’t know what came over me.’

‘Stop.’ She ordered. ‘We are both adults and we both enjoyed ourselves, didn’t we? I know you feel
remorse because your wife only recently died but we are not engaged to be married are we? There
is no attachment. It was pleasant and fun and the sex was good and who knows, maybe we will do
            it again someday.’

I smiled at the gentle let down, much kinder than just walking away as Warner had obviously done
            to her.

‘What are you going to do now?’ I asked.

‘The first thing I have to do is to go into town and buy some new wardrobe. The URNG have several
meetings with various trade delegates arranged which is probably why they were not at the villa. I
promised to meet up with them to help and interpret.’

‘How can I contact you if I find Arnold?’

‘My gorgeous Bryant, you are so lovely and even a little bit naive. Arnold has walked out on me. I
am sure you can see that, so Arnold Warner is no longer of interest to me. If you find him, punch
him on the nose for me.’

By the time I had showered and shaved, Gabriela was ready to leave.
