be transformed by heat into steam or by freezing
into ice. The Greek word for “transform” is
“Metamorphoo” which literally means to
metamorphose. This word is used especially
relating to a pupa that goes through a
metamorphosis (radically transforms) to become a
butterfly.
Thus Paul says that people can be conformed
(outwardly) or they can be transformed (from the
inside). So we have two possibilities – transformed
or conformed. But there are more options. We can
be shaped by the world into its image or by Christ
into His image (Romans 8:29)… “For whom He
foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the
image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among
many brethren.” This gives us three possible
categories into which all people fit.
