Unfortunately, due to a number of major events such as two world wars and Phylloxera plague at the end of the 19th century, the Hungarian wine industry was pretty much non-existent by the end of the last century. Today this has all changed and we are seeing a huge resurgence of their amazing wines. One of our absolute favourite whites is the Dry Furmint.
When you look closely at a bottle of Royal Tokaij you will notice that there is a hybrid flag on the bottle, a mixture of the Hungarian and Slovakian flag. Due to the vineyards of the Tokaij region spreading across the two countries the Slovakians ensured they would get their own recognition by demanding the flag to be presented on the bottle.
