Basic tools for telephone etiquette
• Do not force a call on some one- please ask “Is this a
convenient time to talk?” + 4 keys (GCNO= Greeting.
Confirm. Name. Offer an assistance)
• Listen carefully to the other person’s tone of voice
• Write down the key points you want to discuss
• It is rude to pose as a personal friend just to get the line
through
• Avoiding telephone tag by leaving 6 W+1H details
• “May I put you on hold for a few minutes?” and “Thank
you for holding”
• Put your calls on hold/through a secretary/through
voice mail while on meeting
• Return your call ASAP or at least within 24 hours
