was back in the same room area where all the medical beds were. I
wondered which bed I’d get? This time, it was number 5, if I remember
correctly. The nurse came in and had me change my clothes into the medical
gown. I knew the drill from here. I was a bit more relieved this time, since I
knew the process. I was just happy to get this done. I changed and laid
down waiting to get prepped.
Several nurses and other aids came in to take my vitals. Once my IV was in
place they’d gone to get mom in the waiting area. I knew she’d want to be in
there, and who was I kidding… I needed my mommy!
Mom walked in and sat by my side. Jay quickly followed in after. It was nice
to have them both with me. Having them both there made me feel safe and
secure. Jay asked one of the aids to get me warm blankets, which I'd never
thought to do, even if I had, I’m not the kind of person to make fuss for
something like that, but I loved that Jay did. He was alway looking out for me
and I must admit, the warm blankets were a perfect touch! I was cozy.
So here we all were, in the same place we'd been a week before. We chatted
about all sorts of fun little things and then we’d be quiet for a time, while we
waited.
A lot of time passed, it seemed like at least 2 hours. I was wondering what
was taking so long. I keep telling myself to just relax. Everything was going
to be ok. Another half an hour went by. Something was wrong. I could feel
it. I heard a scuffle at the front desk of the pre-op area. Then I heard
swinging doors open. Dr. Phan and Dr. Schneider, the other doctor whose
bed side manner was the pits, passed by. The curtain to my bed area was
slightly opened, from Jay playing with it earlier. As they passed, Dr. Phan
looked at me. It was a look I had seen before. She dropped her head as she
passed by, not smiling and said, I must make a phone call. I thought, oh dear,
something "is" wrong… again.
